We traveled to Seoul, Korea last week to bring home our new baby son. We spent five days in Seoul. We had a great time being able to visit his birth country. Seoul is a very large metropolitan city. It really feels very western. The fashions. cars and even some of the food is very similar to food in the United States. They have some of the best pastries I have ever eaten. We very quickly came to love bulgogi (a common beef dish) which is a mainstay of Korean food. We also loved the traditional Korean barbeque made of beef or pork and traditionally cooked over a fire on the table in front of you. Kimchi is the main staple of Korean food. It is served with every meal and your plate is refilled with it until you leave the table. It is a spicy pickled dish made with cabbage.
Seoul had a great mass transit system with buses, subway and taxis. It was very easy to use as all signs and stops for both buses and subway were posted in Korean and English. It really is a very vibrant accessible city. I would recommend everyone to visit if you can.
We visited Doeksugung Palace which was the home to Korean royalty from the 1400s until the 20 century. We also did some shopping at Namdaemun market which is a large open air market that sells everything from fruit and fish to baby carriers.
We were able to meet B and his foster family on Monday and then return to pick him up on a Wednesday. He had a wonderful foster family who loved and doted on him tremendously. It was great to know he was so well cared for but also sad to take him away. Our adoption agency was great. It was nice to see how well known and respected they are in Korea especially in Seoul.
B seems to be adjusting well. It is so fun to watch he and Avery play together. A loves helping to care for him especially with feeding. He wants to feed him all the same things he is eating.
We are so happy to have our two boys home with us for good. We are thrilled that our journey to create a family has led us to another beautiful country and forever tied our hearts to its culture, traditions and people.
